What is your background?
I am a native New Yorker and extremely passionate about public education. I got my degree in childhood education with a concentration in psychology from the City College of New York in 2015. I am currently in the process of applying to Brooklyn college for my Master’s in Mathematics for childhood education.
What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is very child-centered and inquiry based. I love helping students find and expand upon their passions. Traditional methods of learning can be rote and boring. Teaching in a creative, hands-on, and child-friendly way is exciting for both student and teacher.
What is your experience?
I have worked with the Wilson method to help teach children how to decode and tap out words, typically for emergent readers (Fundations Program). I am also familiar with Fountas and Pinell leveled reading and running records. I have also worked extensively with Lucy Calkins Reading and Writing project from Teacher’s College, Columbia University. Additionally, I have worked closely with students in ICT classrooms, in which students have had IEPs ranging from cognitive disabilities to behavioral issues, and I enjoy adapting teaching techniques to suit the needs of a student.
